This is officially the second-longest government shutdown in U.S. history. Now on Day 34, it's hours away from matching the longest one on record. Could it set a new record?

The Senate comes back from its weekend recess at 2 p.m. CT Monday . It's not certain that they'll take a vote to reopen.

The federal government shut down as of 12:01 a.m. Oct. 1.

Last week, the Congressional Budget Office estimated this shutdown will cost the U.S. economy between $7 billion and $14 billion. The nonpartisan federal agency said the total depends on whether it lasts another month and warned that funds will never be recovered.
