The Senate comes back from its weekend recess at 2 p.m. CT Monday . It's not certain that they'll take a vote to reopen.
The federal government shut down as of 12:01 a.m. Oct. 1.
Last week, the Congressional Budget Office estimated this shutdown will cost the U.S. economy between $7 billion and $14 billion. The nonpartisan federal agency said the total depends on whether it lasts another month and warned that funds will never be recovered.
CBO said in letter outlining possible outcomes that the country’s economic activity will decrease because of reduced food assistance from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
