GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As the federal government shutdown pushes past a month, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients are in limbo as their benefits were initially paused, and now stand to be partially disbursed.
A court ruling is forcing the Trump Administration to use emergency funds to partially fund SNAP for November, but exactly how much recipients are set to receive and when the benefits will be available is still not yet clear.
Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand is hoping to bring awareness to food insecurity as these nationwide food benefits are in jeopardy. LaGrand announced he will be fasting for SNAP in a Facebook post Monday morning .
