As the federal government shutdown drags into its sixth week , millions of Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program , or SNAP, could soon see their benefits delayed or suspended.

President Donald Trump has urged GOP leaders to eliminate the Senate filibuster to force an end to the shutdown, while Democrats continue to push for broader negotiations. With food insecurity on the rise, the question now is whether SNAP recipients should be shielded from the fallout of future shutdowns.
