Police in Kansas have arrested a former TV news anchor in connection to the stabbing death of her elderly mother.
Angelynn Elizabeth Mock, 47, is charged with first-degree murder after her 80-year-old mother was found unresponsive Oct. 31 with multiple stab wounds in her bed at her Wichita home, the Wichita Police Department said in a media release on social media.
The victim, identified as Anita Avers, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.
A motive in the killing was not immediately known on Monday, Nov. 3, and police said the case remained under investigation. USA TODAY has reached out to the Wichita police.
'Unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds'
Police said officers responded just after 7:50 a.m. local time to a report of a "cutting" at a home in southeast Wichita.
At the scene, arriving officers found the murder suspect, later identified as Mock, outside the home.
"Inside the residence, officers found Anita Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds," police wrote in the release.
Sedgwick County EMS transported Avers to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just before 8:30 a.m., police reported.
The suspect was transported to the hospital for treatment before being taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. Her injuries were not released by law enforcement.
Former TV reporter arrested
As of Monday, Nov. 3, Mock was being held on $1 million bond, Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office online records showed.
Mock worked as a reporter and anchor for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, according to local reports and her LinkedIn profile, which describes her as a "veteran broadcast journalist with 12 years experience."
USA TODAY has reached out to Fox 2 for comment.
Most recently, the profile shows she worked as a data management consultant, selling software.
It was not immediately known whether Mock had obtained legal representation and an online court date had not been set for the case.
