Just 15 hours after being transferred to Forest Bank prison Stephen Wallwork, who was 34, was found dead in his cell.

The prisons watchdog said it was 'possible' he had smuggled synthetic cannabinoids into the prison after a transfer from HMP Wymott in Leyland, Lancashire. He was found collapsed with a vape in his hand.

The staff at Forest Bank didn’t search him, or the property he had with him, on his arrival - contrary to national guidance. Mr Wallwork became part of a set of ugly statistics around the prison.

He was the 27th person to die there in just five years .
