A woman is in custody after an on-call doctor was assaulted at Health Sciences Centre on Sunday — the latest in a string of violent incidents at Manitoba’s largest hospital, where nurses say chronic overcrowding and unsafe conditions have pushed staff to the breaking point.
Winnipeg police said the assault was reported just before 11 a.m. when a patient turned violent toward a physician. Security officers called for help, and officers already on site for another matter responded. A woman in her 30s was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. She remains in custody.
