NEW YORK (PIX11) — The most popularly prescribed drug in the U.S. has been recalled by the Federal Drug Administration.

Over 141,000 bottles of Atorvastatin Calcium Tablets, distributed by Ascend Laboratories, LLC in New Jersey, have been voluntarily recalled by Ascend after the tablets failed dissolution specifications testing, according to the FDA recall.

Atorvastatin is the No. 1-selling prescription drug in the U.S., according to ClinicCalc.

“Atorvastatin is used together with a proper diet to lower cholesterol and triglyceride (fats) levels in the blood,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “This medicine may help prevent medical problems (eg, chest pain, heart attack, or stroke) that are caused by fats clogging the blood vessels.
