It’s been a great day for Katrina Johnson, doorperson at 530 N. Lake Shore Dr.

“My daughter made the honor roll today as a first-semester freshman in high school,” Johnson said, smiling. “And I’m doorperson of the month.”

Residents at “530 North,” as they affectionately call it, are greeted by a calm, elegant lobby anchored by a large mahogany desk—Johnson’s station.

“I’ve been here for two years, and it just feels like home,” she said. “It’s very easy to come to work here, and the residents are so good to me.”

Johnson, who is expecting a baby, said the kindness of residents often surprises her.
