Sign goes up at Gichi

BRAINERD — The Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts finally bears its name.

Letters were added to the building last week, identifying the performing arts center at Brainerd High School. The facility was built as a result of the school district’s 2018 bonding referendum.

Community members were invited to suggest names for the center, and School Board members unanimously chose Gichi-ziibi, which is the Ojibwe word for “big river” or “Mississippi River.”
