A New York man faces charges for allegedly arranging to meet with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl in Meriden.

Mehedi Hasan Omi, 31, has been charged with criminal attempt at risk of injury to a child, criminal attempt at second-degree sexual assault, criminal attempt at harmful communication with a minor and criminal attempt at enticing a minor, according to Lt. Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police Department .

McKay said Omi was identified during an investigation conducted by the department’s Special Crimes Unit. According to McKay, he was allegedly involved in explicit conversations with someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl who claimed to be turning 14 on Oct. 31.
