BUFFALO, N.Y. — Polls open across New York State Tuesday at 6 a.m. as people go out to vote in this off-year election.
With no presidential election this year, voter turnout will be lower than last year, but there are still lots of local races that will get people out to the polls on Tuesday.

Monday afternoon, 2 On Your Side talked with University at Buffalo political science professor Shawn Donahue about his expectations for voter turnout.
"Lower than the presidential or midterm election, which is fairly common," said Donahue, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Political Science at UB.
