BUFFALO, N.Y. — Would it surprise you to know there are 647 elections across the 8 counties of WNY this election season?
There is, of course, high profile races like Buffalo Mayor, Erie County Comptroller, Supervisor races in Amherst, Hamburg and Orchard Park along with additional mayoral battles in North Tonawanda, Tonawanda and Olean.

But the vast majority of races, 79.1% of them in fact, have already been decided, and election day hasn't even wrapped up yet.
How is that possible?
Of the 687 races in WNY, only 147 are contested—meaning two or more candidates are fighting to win their race.
That represents just 21.3% of races this election year where voters across the region have an actual choice when they cast their ball
