ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)---More than 30 state lawmakers from both sides of the aisle signed a letter to Governor Hochul thanking her for allocating $106 million dollars of state money towards food assistance programs amid the federal government shutdown. However, they would like her to do more.

"We were able to send a bipartisan letter to the governor asking for New York State to fully fund SNAP benefits at the state level and then seek reimbursement from the federal government," explained Republican Senator, Jake Ashby.

They say Virginia, Louisiana, Vermont, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Guam have “pledged to either fully or partially fund SNAP payments and directly load those funds onto EBT cards using state dollars.”

The lawmakers who signed the letter want New York to do the same.
