CITY HALL, Manhattan (PIX11) -- On the eve of Election Day in New York City, the race for mayor closed with sharp exchanges following comments by President Donald Trump.
Trump, in an interview aired Sunday night on CBS’s 60 Minutes, said he would “pick” former Gov. Andrew Cuomo over Mamdani, calling Cuomo “a bad Democrat” but labeling Zohran Mamdani “a communist.”
Trump added that it would be “hard for me as the President to give a lot of money to New York,” claiming Mamdani would waste those tax dollars if elected.
Mamdani, a Democratic socialist and state assemblymember, denounced Trump’s remarks during a rally outside City Hall, surrounded by other progressive leaders.
