GREENSBORO, N.C. — Scammers are once again proving they’ll take advantage of anyone even people just trying to put food on the table.
Over the weekend, our team started seeing a surge of posts spreading through local Facebook groups that appeared to advertise a community food giveaway. The post read, “Amid SNAP benefits, we’d love for you to join us tomorrow, Sunday, November 2nd, for a food drive-thru pickup starting at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Groceries and food items will be available at no charge.”
At first glance, it sounds generous. But there’s a problem. The post doesn’t say where the food drive is happening. Instead, it includes a “Register Here” link.
When you click that link, you’re taken to a page asking for your name, address, and other personal information. The site claims to be
