ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — Daniel Pate, a deacon at Old Horseshoe Freewill Baptist Church in Carter County, who, along with the church's pastor, filed a federal lawsuit against the Carter County Sheriff's Office, was arrested on theft charges last week.

The arrest comes from a complaint from Logan Buck, owner of Buck's Remodeling in Elizabethton. Buck says he's used Pate as a subcontractor on several remodeling jobs in the past, but wasn't paid for several jobs recently. "We got really close. He was like a brother to me," Buck said about the two's initial relationship. "Did a lot of jobs for me. Did great work on them. I kept hearing rumors that he was doing these things to other people. But I said, you know, I've always been the type of guy to judge somebody by how they treat me."
