GORHAM, Maine — The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced that it will partially fund Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for November, following two federal judges' rulings that the agency must keep the program running.
Maine is awaiting direction from the federal government about issuing partial payments, according to Maine DHHS spokesperson Lindsay Hammes.
"For awareness, SNAP benefits are generally delivered in Maine between the 10th and 14th of the month. The sooner Maine receives direction from the federal government, the sooner the Department will be able to issue those benefits – possibly in time to meet standard issuance timelines," Hammes said.
Meanwhile, organizations and schools across Maine are stepping up their support for families in need.
