A search is underway in Western Alaska for a man who disappeared after falling through the ice near Kotzebue.
Alaska State Troopers say three men from Kotzebue were traveling on a snowmachine and two four-wheelers near Lockhart Point on Saturday when they went through the ice. One man made it safely to shore, and a second — identified as 46-year-old Elmer Brown Sr. — was rescued but later died at a local health clinic.
Search efforts continue for the third man, who has not yet been found. Troopers say they are coordinating with the Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue program, the Kotzebue Fire Department, and local volunteers.
Officials say the search will continue as conditions allow.
