Currently, Alberta teachers advocating for a provincial strike against the government are already very well remunerated compared to other overtaxed serfs. The cost of a general strike would be enormous. Firstly, costs should be calculated along with the tax percentage increase needed to cover teachers’ demands and provincial revenue reduction. Secondly, the binding choice for taxpayers would be a vote to either pay the teachers’ demands and increase taxes accordingly, or to hold the line.
