(WNDU) - Families across Michiana are facing financial strain as SNAP benefits experience delays and reduced payments, with recipients receiving only half their normal November allocation.
Mariah Singleton, a SNAP recipient from South Bend, said she sometimes skips paying utility bills to ensure her family has food.
“Sometimes I don’t pay some of the bills, I’ll skip my electric or gas or something just to make sure my family’s got food,” Singleton said. “And after we run out of the food stamps, if we get half of it, that’s not even gonna cover it.”
The Singleton family relies on SNAP benefits as their primary food assistance. Mariah and her daughter are on disability, leaving only her husband working. After paying for insurance and utilities, Singleton said she has $100 to $200 left in
