Detroit residents expect their next mayor to expand upon the work of Mayor Mike Duggan in rebuilding the city's distressed neighborhoods. He has laid the foundation for the rebuilding process over the past decade by improving neighborhood infrastructure, refurbishing commercial strips, clearing abandoned homes, cleaning parks and vacant lots and building greenways.

Nonetheless, much of the rebuilding work within the neighborhoods remains and cannot be accomplished without the city increasing its partnership with community-based redevelopment corporations and providing more financial and technical support to them.
