APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Families and providers say Wisconsin’s childcare system continues to be a burden, both financially and for reliability.

Democratic lawmakers met with them on Monday to talk about ways to keep childcare centers open and affordable.

It’s a daily balancing act for many Wisconsin families, trying to work while finding affordable, reliable childcare.

“In order for me to have a job, I have to have childcare that I can trust and depend on. Otherwise, I can’t go to work every day. And so now I purchased and co-own a childcare center in order to have that,” Virginia Maus, co-owner of Joyful Beginnings Academy, said.

Waitlists across the Fox Valley are growing fast.
