NEW LONDON, Wis. (WBAY) - On Monday afternoon, the New London Fire Department responded to a duplex fire on the 600 block of E. Pine Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames billowing from the garage.

The roof was already caving in onto a vehicle that was on fire inside that garage.

Firefighters extinguished the vehicle and garage fire and kept the fire from burning into the living areas on both sides of the duplex. Both living units received smoke damage.

There was extensive damage to the garage and roof. The duplex may be considered a total loss.

The tenant who rents one side of the duplex said she had struck and killed a hunting dog that had run onto the highway with her vehicle earlier that day. She said her vehicle started running very poorly after str
