MCLEAN COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - McLean County prosecutors have accused two people with supplying the heroin that caused a Gridley woman’s death.

James Day, 35, of Bloomington and Shylah Slater, 33, of Creve Coeur have pleaded not guilty of drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony, and three other drug charges in connection with the death of Maggie Mae Morris on June 9, 2025

Morris’ obituary said she was 33 and died at her Gridley home.

On Friday, McLean County Associate Judge Amy McFarland decided to keep Day in jail before trial. McFarland released Slater on conditions that she does not use alcohol, cannabis, or prescription drugs without permission.
