PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Forty-five years ago today, WEEK’s television studio became an unexpected venue for presidential politics when Ronald Reagan and his running mate George H.W. Bush toured the newsroom on Nov. 3, 1980, just one day before the election.

Former 25News floor director Steve Shaw was among the employees who helped build risers and create a special set for the nationally taped broadcast.

Shaw said Reagan and Bush were scheduled to tape elsewhere, but WEEK’s large studio was the only space that could handle the production team and the process.

He recalled a tense moment when he nearly had a run-in with the Secret Service while trying to help Reagan with his appearance.
