JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla — A group on Florida’s First Coast is stepping up to help neighbors across Jamaica suffering from the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa, but they say they can’t do it alone. They’re seeking donations and support to make a real difference.
Last week, Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 storm, sweeping away entire communities and cutting off access to essential supplies with blocked roads, mudslides and floods. Families have been left without food, clean water or shelter, struggling to survive each day.
Onur Topac, with the Blessed Bible Mission based in Jacksonville Beach, has worked through more than a dozen hurricanes in his career and says this one has been especially destructive.
“I’ve worked the last 14 or 15 hurricanes on record,"
