SHAWNEE, Kan. -- As the government shutdown lingers, many families are left wondering if and when they will receive November SNAP benefits.
Businesses around the Kansas City metro have stepped in to help people who rely on the federally funded food aid program.
Kansas City area Hy-Vee stores are offering $3 hot meals for dine-in or carry-out, November 3-7—kids 12 and under eat free.
It’s important to note that Hy-Vee’s dinner special is available to everyone, not just SNAP recipients or federal employees affected by the government shutdown.
“We're not going to ask anybody about their financial situation because we just want to be able to help everybody in Kansas City,” said Hy-Vee store director Karla Quandt.
Quandt says hunger needs have been amplified over the last week.
