A big second-set deficit did little to deter Kellenberg ’s title defense. Instead, it allowed the Firebirds to mount a relentless rally and display championship-level grit.
Top-seeded Kellenberg won its third straight league title, defeating third-seeded St. Anthony’s , 25-20, 28-26, 25-22, in the CHSAA girls volleyball final at St. Dominic High School on Monday night.
The Friars led the second set 16-9 after Cassandra Rhodes' kill. Kellenberg called a timeout and scored the next four points, going on an 8-2 run to get within one point.
The Friars would have two set points, the first being saved after a kill by Kellenberg’s Lisa Cortizo and the second by Josephine Speciale’s kill. Angela Bush stepped to the service line with the Firebirds ahead one point and served an ace to end
