The Catholic Church is now stepping in to help ease any food shortages. The Archdiocese of Hartford is donating half a million dollars to food banks throughout the state.

“It’s one of our corporal works of mercy so when we see a need such as we have right now, the need is so great, we have to respond,” Father John Melnick, rector at the archdiocese, said.
A need Melnick said the church has seen with uncertainty over SNAP benefits for thousands in the state. In the last week alone, they’ve noticed more people coming into their food pantry.
“We saw 73 new households come to our door and we had over 400 households this past week
