There's been a major development in the rollout of the long-awaited Regional Rail Fleet , but there's still no date for the project's completion.
Announced back in February 2019 by the NSW Government, the new regional rail trains are set to replace the nearly 40-year-old fleet of XPT, XPLORER and Endeavour trains. There's 29 modern trains waiting in the wings as part of the anticipated roll-out.
The new designs for the fleet were unveiled in 2020 and were expected to be rolled out by 2023.
But as of November 2025, there is still no locked-in rollout date.
There are currently six trains being tested.
Speaking to ACM, Minister for Roads and Regional Transport, Jenny Aitchison , said while she couldn't confirm a rollout date, she expects the process to quicken up after the NSW Gover
