WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Wichita Public Library program potentially saved a man’s life. The man checked out a radon detector that he used to find dangerous levels of the chemical in his home.
When most people go to the library, they think of books, or computers, maybe movies you can rent. But one Wichita man found something potentially life-saving.
When he tested his home using the radon-detector from the library, he found that his radon levels were more than double what the EPA says is safe. The man had a company come out that confirmed the reading, so he ended up getting mitigated.
Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and the second leading cause overall for lung cancer.
