As of Oct. 31, there are 35,894 registered voters in Chaves County, according to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Election Office.

There are more registered voters in Chaves County describing themselves as “others” than as Democrats during this election. Regular local elections are considered nonpartisan. However, there are 18,157 Republicans, 8,407 Democrats, and 9,330 “others.”

Two years prior, there were 34,085 registered voters in Chaves County. Of those, 17,118 voters were Republicans, 8,692 were Democrats, and 8,275 were either Libertarian or “other.” Only about 8% of the county’s registered voters completed their ballots before this Election Day, said Casey Higgins, chief of the Bureau of Elections.
