PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland transportation officials are warning of increased traffic safety risks following the end of daylight saving time, which brings earlier darkness and rainier weather to city streets.

Last year, 83% of traffic deaths in Portland occurred in darker conditions, which includes dusk, nighttime and dawn, according to the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT). Of all pedestrian deaths last year, 86% occurred in darker conditions.

The warning follows three deadly crashes last week in East Portland's Hazelwood and Gateway neighborhoods, according to the bureau.
