Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda in Lilongwe is expected to deliver his ruling this morning, on a bail application filed by eleven suspects linked to the May 2019 Mponela violence in Dowa.

The suspects are seeking release on bail, arguing that the prosecution has failed to provide evidence showing that their release would interfere with justice.

However, the State has opposed the application, insisting that the accused should remain in custody until the trial concludes.

Those facing trial are Bruno Munlo Makina, Erick Phalamisa, Davie Malamula, Rahim Jonathan, Alphonso Chiphwanya, Esaya Bwanali, Alfred Dalla Kadula, Issa Saidi, Lameck Mandowa, Lester Kanjunga, and Howard Kadango.
