WASHINGTON – Washington is joining 21 other states in a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education.
The lawsuit, led by Attorney General Nick Brown, claims the department is unlawfully restricting eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program .
This program allows government and nonprofit employees to apply for federal student loan forgiveness after 10 years of service and consistent payments.
The attorneys general involved are asking the court to declare the rule unlawful, vacate it, and prevent the department from enforcing or implementing it.
This legal action aims to ensure that the rules align with the program’s intended purpose.
