SOLON, Ohio -- A man who was the passenger in a car stopped by police -- but who was not the target of the stop -- should not have accepted the kind offer from an officer of a ride to his destination. The man, after all, was in possession of a stolen gun.
At 2 p.m. Oct. 29, an officer on patrol conducted a registration check on a red Chevrolet Equinox as it was traveling south on Cochran Road, near Solon Road.
The registered owner had a suspended driver’s license, so the officer stopped the car to investigate. The driver, a Cleveland woman, 28, was confirmed to be the owner.
The officer cited the woman for driving under suspension and, after releasing her, offered her and her passenger a ride to their destination.
The driver did not accept the offer, but the passenger did.
