Happy Valley-Goose Bay Deputy Mayor Jackie Compton-Hobbs says she’s tired of talking about public safety and it’s time for action.

“We don't need to spend the next six months sitting down trying to figure this out,” she said at a public safety meeting held in the community on Saturday.

The town council held the meeting because the community is at “a breaking point,” said Mayor Bert Pomeroy.

“Enough is enough,” he told the gathered residents.

“We need an intervention, we need support and we need it now.”

Fires put residents on edge

Pomeroy told CBC News a recent string of fires in the community has put residents on edge.

On Oct. 24, there were four structure fires overnight, and police suspect it may have been arson .
