INDIANAPOLIS — The Butler men's basketball team has not finished better than eighth in the Big East since Thad Matta returned as coach in 2022.

The Bulldogs finished ninth in Year 1, improved to eighth in Year 2, but plateaued with another eighth-place finish in 2025. Matta's peers think the program has reached its nadir, picking the Dawgs to finish 10th in the preseason media poll.
