ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) - Tuesday is election day, with voters across the country taking up a wealth of issues at the state and local levels.
In New York’s north country, we’re watching the special election for a state assembly seat.
Following the resignation of Billy Jones earlier this year, democratic candidate and current Plattsburgh town manager Michael Cashman faces republican Brent Davison. Davison is a retired New York State Police commander.
This seat is only a one-year gig to finish up Jones’s remaining term.
Both candidates say repealing the HALT Act, which partly did away with solitary confinement to prevent brutality toward inmates, is among their top priorities.
They disagree on medical aid in dying, which is on Governor Kathy Hochul’s desk. Davison is against it while Cashma
