CROGHAN, New York (WWNY) - AAA is urging drivers to be especially cautious because it’s peak season for car-animal collisions.
There’s a line of crashed vehicles at Wolff’s Auto Body Shop just outside Croghan. Most were damaged after hitting deer on North Country roads.
“I would say our workload over about the last month, month and a half has about doubled just because of the animal losses,” said Scott Moshier-Wolffs, shop owner.
AAA reported more than 36,000 animal crashes in 2024 and released a top 10 list of where the most crashes have happened. St. Lawrence County is 5th on the list, Jefferson County is 6th, and for Jefferson County, it’s the highest number since 2018.
