MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. — A Traverse City man escaped a fiery car crash with only minor injuries, according to the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened just before 3 a.m. Tuesday in the area of 220th Avenue and Elder Road in Mecosta Township.
Deputies had received an iPhone crash detection alert and responded to the scene, where they found a car fully engulfed in flames in the ditch along 220th Avenue.
Deputies say the driver was unable to negotiate a curve when he lost control. The vehicle left the road, hit a guardrail and overturned before catching fire.
The 36-year-old driver from Traverse City was able to get out of the vehicle on his own before deputies responded, the sheriff's office said. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
