CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two of Charlotte's city council district races featuring multiple candidates have been decided.
Charlotte residents decided on the mayoral race, four at-large City Council seats, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Board of Education, a transit tax referendum, and several district council seats.
Among these contests, the District 3 and District 6 City Council races are drawing the most for the general election.
District 3 race
Democrat Joi Mayo defeated Republican James Bowers and unaffiliated candidate Robin Emmons. Mayo won with 73% of the votes, compared to 16% for Bowers and 10% for Emmons.
District 3 covers neighborhoods including Steele Creek and Nations Ford. Mayo defeated incumbent Tiawana Brown in a primary upset. Mayo won with 49.48% of the vote, while Brown
