Businesses on Mount Washington have seen a decline in customers since the Monongahela Incline shut down Saturday.
While shuttles are running in place of the incline, people who live and work nearby say it doesn't match the experience. Advertisement
“Tourism is a big part of our business,” said Michael Miller at Shiloh Bistro. “And having that population completely cut off from the incline, which attracts a lot of people, has been a detriment to our business.”
On Saturday, 27 people were trapped in the two cars for hours after they moved about 40 feet, then froze. Paramedics rescued four people from the east car using a pulley system before first responders brought in a ladder truck to save the other 20 passengers. The incline has been closed since then.
