A man who broke a car window in a bid to rescue two distressed dogs has been cleared of criminal damage after being taken to court over the incident.

Jacob Harvey, 28, was found not guilty by magistrates in Cornwall following the incident in St Ives last November.

The former delivery driver said he was working at approximately 5pm one evening when he spotted the two dogs but couldn't locate their owners. Jacob, who owns a rottweiler and whippet himself, said his concern grew as his shift continued - and the animals remained in the vehicle.

"They were howling and barking and in distress," he said. "It made me very upset. I feel I've got a duty of care to rescue them." View 5 Images
