The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating after the driver of an SUV struck a pedestrian Monday evening.

Officers were called to reports of the collision near the intersection of King George Boulevard and 40 Avenue shortly after 6 p.m.

Police say several other drivers were involved in “minor collisions with each other as a result of the initial collision with the pedestrian,” but only one person was reported injured.

The woman who had been struck was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Police say the driver who struck the pedestrian remained at the scene, but the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Investigators closed northbound lanes of King George Boulevard for several hours. The road has since reopened.
