A former army veteran was left heartbroken after returning from holiday to discover his flat 'covered' in human waste.
James Stubbs, 72, said he and his wife made the horrifying discovery at their Denton home in the early hours of 2 October following a late flight back from Alicante.
"It was about 3am when we eventually got back," he told the M.E.N. "We turned the lights on, and saw immediately that the whole flat was covered in human waste."
Whilst he had been away, a tree root had blocked one of the drains serving the block of flats, reports the Manchester Evening News.
"All the waste from all the flats couldn't drain, and my flat is on the ground floor, closest to the blockage," he said. "So it all came back up through my toilet and bath."
