NORMAL ( 25News Now ) - The union representing firefighters in Normal questioned the town government’s commitment to public safety at the same time elected officials approved raising taxes to help pay for a $40 million underpass and green space in Uptown Normal.
Meanwhile, town staffers said in a statement they are indeed committed to community safety, providing fire and emergency services in an “efficient and fiscally responsible manner.”
Monday, Normal Firefighters Local 2442 on Monday released the findings of a community needs study commissioned by the union.
The study’s findings show a “clear and pressing need for additional fire stations, staffing, and updated planning” to ensure the safety of residents, the union said in a release.
