SANTA FE, N.M. —
The U.S. Forest Service announced that it plans to move forward with the Holiday North prescribed fire on Holiday Mesa in the Jemez Ranger District following favorable weather conditions and required approvals.
The 878-acre broadcast burn Tuesday is designed to reduce hazardous fuels and protect nearby communities, infrastructure and natural resources from the threat of future wildfires.
According to the Forest Service, ignitions are scheduled to take place over two to three days to help minimize smoke impacts.
Smoke from the burn is expected to be visible from Jemez Springs, La Cueva, the Community of Gilman, the Pueblo of Jemez, San Ysidro and along the U.S. Route 550 corridor.
