GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A middle school student brought a gun magazine to school in October, district officials confirm.

A Riverside Middle School at Innovation Central student brought the magazine on October 15. At no point was a weapon brought into the school, according to Grand Rapids Public Schools.

There are metal detectors at that particular school building, officials confirmed. It is unknown how the student was able to pass through with the magazine.

The student was disciplined based on district policy. Grand Rapids Public Schools would not disclose what that discipline included.

School officials handed over the investigation to the Grand Rapids Police Department.
