A Sudbury man has admitted to sexually assaulting two girls and threatening to shoot a jail guard in the head.

Dalton Bals, 20, had been facing 17 charges. He pleaded guilty to three of them in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury: sexual interference, sexual assault and uttering a threat to cause death.

Since the court ordered a pre-sentence report for Bals, who is in custody, sentencing will take place in the new year.

A pre-sentence report usually takes six to eight weeks to prepare. However, defence lawyer Glenn Sandberg asked for more time because certain records are needed to prepare the report.

The sentencing is expected to be contested, meaning the Crown and the defence can’t agree on the sentence Bals should receive.
